Description
Egyptian fruit bats are scattered across the tropics and subtropics of Turkey and Cyprus to Pakistan and the Arabian Peninsula throughout Egypt and most of Africa, south of the Sahara. They have a very large range and therefore it is hard to determine just how many of them are in the wild.
They seem to adapt very well to living conditions that would be difficult for other species of bats to survive. Bats roost in large numbers in caves. They will travel large distances to feed on a wide variety of ripe fruit, figs in particular. They are one of the few members of the fruit bat family to use echolocation.
