Description
A beautiful bird, Bali mynas are snow white with black tips on the wing and tail feathers and a bright blue patch of skin around the eyes. Males and females are almost identical with males having slightly longer head crests.
The Bali mynah is native to only a small area on the island of Bali. They generally stay in the tree tops, coming down only to drink or find nesting material.
The wild population has been close to extinction since 1994. In 2001 there were only 6 Bali mynas left in the wild. As of 2015, less than 100 adults are thought to exist in the wild, and about a 1000 in captivity. This is mainly due to the illegal wildlife trade where the birds can fetch thousands of dollars on the black market.
